Supreme Court

The Supreme Court is the highest judicial body in the government that is part of a 3 branch checks and balances system that prevents any branch from gaining to much power. The court comprises of nine Judges which are named by the President and affirmed by the US Senate. The Supreme Court is the final court in the long of line of courts. Judges filter through 7,000 cases every year and scrutinously choses 100-150 cases. At the point when the case is picked the Judges identify the key violation and address the illegality of it compared to written law.

The Supreme Court is necessary to our government and in my opinion the most vital aspect of our government. The court when uncompromised and diverse is unbiased in every case making their decisions based on the law and ideal morals. The constitution is colorblind and its interpretation must be the same. I believe that the Supreme Court was essential in our societal change and their rulings give people a moral level in which they should live at.

It's true that the Supreme Court has turned over past verdicts, but as time progresses the nation as a whole evolves with new interpretation. I believe if the Supreme Court had ruled in Plessy V Ferguson that Plessys rights were violated then Jim Crow would have been cut in half and societal mindset of now would be incredibly progressive. However, the Court does recognize that they make mistakes and with new interpretations comes more reform. The Supreme Court is necessary, even though it makes mistakes. Without it there would be no voice for those violated by new legislation. As individuals we don't have much say in our government, but with the Supreme Court there's always solace in the fact that the government can be held accountable when we believe our rights are being violated.
